What is a Spartan Race?

Spartan Racing is the revolutionary way to work out, pushing your body to the limits with their world leading obstacle courses. Racing styles range from muddy 3+ mile events up to 40+ mile events. And you don’t have to be an “extreme” athlete to get into the game. Beginners can do the 5k (3.2 miles) sprint trail race, (hey, get off the couch, out of the house and move!) More seasoned athletes can get down and dirty on an obstacle course with fire, mud, water, barbed wire, climbing, dragging, crawling, and of course, extreme competition.

When I first learned about Spartan Race I was intrigued. I teach an intense outdoor boot camp to a group of women 3 days a week in New York City. It’s a challenging workout that increases strength, endurance and mental stamina. As human beings we all have a competitive side and we thrive off of companionship. These elements combined with the great outdoors provokes our inner strengths and forces us to work harder, set the bar higher, and push ourselves past our comfort zone!

I’m working on getting my own team together for the Tri-State race in September, 2012!
